Jewellery FAQ
What is rhodium and why is white gold jewellery rhodium-plated??
Rhodium is a noble metal that belongs to the platinum family. In the jewellery sector, it is mainly used for rhodium plating, a galvanic process in which the liquid rhodium migrates to the piece of jewellery via an electrolytic solution. This gives the white gold a precious uniform coating that makes it appear white like platinum.
Some clients do not wish to have their white gold jewellery rhodium-plated, as they prefer the warmer, slightly yellowish hue of the white gold, which results from alloying gold with palladium and silver.
How can I clean my jewellery or have it cleaned??
You can clean your gold and platinum jewellery gently with a toothbrush in lukewarm water. Do not use detergents or soap and be sure the sink stopper is closed. Do not use this cleaning method for necklaces that are threaded, such as pearl necklaces, or pieces of jewellery that are not meant to get wet, such as brass jewellery.

How can I ensure that the diamonds and precious stones in my jewellery are still firmly set??
This examination is very demanding and should be carried out by an expert using a microscope. We therefore offer to inspect your jewellery professionally and free of charge.
Can I bring my own stones for you to create a new piece of jewellery? What risks am I taking??
Yes, customized jewellery is our field of expertise and we ensure utmost care when creating your new piece.
Nevertheless, when working with precious stones, there is always the risk that stones can break due to their fissility or cleavage lines. We take responsibility for this risk for stones that are purchased from us; however, for stones that were not purchased from us, we do not take the responsibility for this risk.
I have old jewellery. What can I do with it??
We offer the following solutions:
Alterations: Sometimes small changes can make your piece of jewellery appear in new splendor and suit your current style. We are pleased to take the time to advise you and carry out alterations according to your wishes.
Use of stones for a new piece of jewellery: We examine the condition of your stones and, if desired, create a new piece of jewellery with them.
Trade-in of old gold: You can trade your old scrap gold in towards the purchase of a new piece of jewellery or luxury watch from our range of products.
Melting and reusing old gold: This option is more complex and costly that trading in your old gold, but is sometimes requested by customers when an old piece of jewellery is of high emotional value. Your old jewellery is melted and a new piece is made using the same gold. Get in touch with us for more information.
Do you repair and restore high-quality antique jewellery??
We have experienced goldsmiths that are specialized in repairing and restoring antique jewellery. We are pleased to carry out these repairs for you in our in-house workshop.
Can diamonds break??
Yes, even though diamonds are the only gemstones that measure a 10 on the MOHS scale for the hardness of gemstones, they have cleavage lines, which, when struck with enough impact, can cause the diamond to separate.
Therefore, hard blows on doorknobs, iron rods or other hard objects should be avoided. Repeated clashing of rings against each other by clapping, for instance, should also be avoided.
